GARBAGE COLLECTION SCHEME.( 29-06-09)

CITIZENS’ ASSOCIATION [REGD]

Sector 21, Chandigarh

Dated:29.06.2009

Subject: GARBAGE COLLECTION SCHEME.

As intimated through earlier circulars, your association had to strive hard to manage the door to door garbage collection scheme effectively against all odds created by some vested interests by instigating the Safai workers to grab the scheme from the association.

In order to save the residents from exploitation by the Safai Karamcharies for charging double/triple rates, besides providing irregular service, your association had to engage Tractor Trolley service, which has proved costly affair and also led to some complaints of late collection of garbage.

As the things have settled down, the executive committee of the association in its meeting held on 19.06.2009 decided that it should revert to old system of collecting the garbage through ‘Rehris’ to economies on the increased expenses of Tractor Trolley service. Interalia, following facts were considered in detail:

1. Existing garbage collection charges were fixed six years back.

2. The expenses on salary of Safai workers, price of new rehris & its repair & maintenance have increased manifold.

3. Expenses on printing of receipt books, registers, publication & distribution of circulars & other petty items have also become costlier over the period of time.

4. To ensure the regular & efficient service from the Safai workers, their salaries are required to be increased keeping in the view the price index.

5. No annual subscription is charged from the members of the association after making one time payment of Rs. 300/- for enrolment as life member.

In view of the above & many other factors , it has become necessary to revise the existing rates. The executive committee after careful consideration has decided to revise the existing garbage collection charges as under:-

Tree Plantation Drive under ‘Partnership Initiative Program ' 9th July 2009

Programme’ in the ground of sub-sector 21-A, (Near verka booth) on Thrusday, the 9th July, 2009 at 10.00 a.m. A group of volunteers formed Trees for sector 21Chandigarh whose purpose is to plant and maintain the trees that line the residential Parks in our community. Working as a committee of CA21, Trees for sector 21Chandigarh has planted over 125 trees, contracted watering services during drought periods and provided preventative maintenance of at-risk trees.

This year, the annual Fall survey was conducted as a pilot program with the Casey Trees Endowment Fund to help create a model for other neighborhoods. For the 2009-2010 planting, Trees for Chandigarh is partnering with the Partnership Program Administration, the Earth Conservation Corps and Casey Trees in an innovative program to plant 46 residential sectors trees. Species being planted this year .

Park trees endure terrific stress and need your care. Please take pride in them and adopt a tree, new or established, near you. If you can do nothing else to help care for these trees, please water them.

Water slowly and deeply with at least five ltrs of water twice each week. This is very important during hot, dry weather

Continue watering, as needed, until the ground is frozen

Resume watering when new leaves appear in the spring

Do not over water. Pull back mulch, test soil with your finger, if soil is wet, do not water.

Do not over mulch. Two to four inches of mulch is ideal. Do not let mulch touch the trunk.

For more information on care please contact our environment Secretary Sh. Harpreet Singh on Phone No 9463694008 .
